D'Lola Couture is a wedding dress label that has a breadth of
history within the domestic violence world. On a day in early
November 1986, Deedee's mother, Lola, disappeared. At this
time Deedee was a young teenager. Her mother Lola had
been trying to escape a life of violence and control caused by
a former boyfriend. Only a few days after going missing Lola's
body was found, leaving her only daughter alone in the world.
Deedee created D'Lola as a way to honor her mother's
strength and beauty. Deedee has dedicated her life to raising
awareness of this issue and is now launching her "Breaking
the Silence" campaign. This will provide education for women
who are victims of domestic violence on how to help
themselves. It will also provide help for children who have
experienced situations similar to Deedee's understanding that
there is life beyond this point of terror.
